For a couple of years now, have offered inexpensive and rock-solid targeting the small-business and website-operator markets.
One or two DNS servers, 24-36 USD/year, per domain. It’s a heck of a deal, if we do say so ourselves.
But what if you’ve got more than one domain? What if you sell hosting, or are a web developer, and need slave DNS service for multiple domains?
Now, we do that, too.
Over the last month, we’ve set up and tested a couple of slave DNS servers designed specifically for that purpose. There’s nothing magical about them, or the software we’re using (PowerDNS). This isn’t some closely-guarded magical secret or anything. It’s nothing you couldn’t do yourself, if you were so inclined.
The only thing is – we know what we’re doing, and we’re willing to do it at a lower price than you can.
What are we talking about? We’ll let you use two DNS slaves – one in the United Kingdom, and one in the heart of the United States – for 4 USD per master server, per month – or 40 USD per master server, per year. Unlimited zones (i.e. domains) per server, unlimited traffic. (And if you only want one slave, or your server happens to be in the same datacentre as one of our slaves – Equinix in Chicago or Bluesquare in London – we can do that for 3 USD per server, per month – or 30 USD per server, per year.)
There are certain unavoidable technical restrictions, which you’re free to discuss with us. This offer is not listed on our website – this is a WHT-only special until the end of the year, and you must contact us to order. We accept payment through 2Checkout and PayPal, as well as cheques and money orders in USD, if that’s what floats your boat.
Oh, and by the way – if you’d like to try us out, last week, on two slave servers, for one master server, up to thirty zones, to the first three WHT members with at least 25 posts who PM’d us three original English-language dirty limericks.
Redundant slave DNS – only, you know, one of the most important and most overlooked parts of hosting and running websites. Free. All you had to do was click the little PM link and think up a couple dirty limericks. They didn’t even have to be good – it was the effort that counted.
Not a single person took us up on this offer. Not one. Not a single limerick hit the inbox. 150-some-odd people looked at the offer, and then decided "you know what, that’s really too much effort, thanks anyway".
Slackers.
So, seriously, let’s try this again. Want free, redundant DNS hosting? For… eight months? (Through 01 Aug 2010.) For up to, oh, sixty zones? For FREE? Run your own Linux/UNIX server (or VPS)? Got… 15 posts here on WHT? Then here is what you do:
Click my username, above this post, and click on "Send a private message to Ankheg". Compose a brief message asking, politely, for free DNS hosting.
First three qualifying individuals to send PMs free of particularly egregious typographic and grammatical errors get the goods, free.
No catch, no obligation; you must have root access to your server and be running BIND/NAMED for this free offer.
Free offer good while supplies last, or one week, whichever happens first. Quoted pricing good through the end of the month.
Happy holidays, you incredibly lazy slackers.
